Check out these amazing assemblage pieces by artist Zac Freeman who's been collecting junk, usually from the trash, since 1999. The process is really simple, but the preparation must take months. Once the right selection of tat has been found Zac glues objects to a wooden substrate to form his designs – which are mainly portraits as it happens. The artwork might look far bigger in the photos, at first I imagined the guy was holding yard sales and taking photos from his roof (now there's an idea). But take a closer look, and you can tell the objects are very small, such as buttons, fixings, clips, plastic mouldings and such. Most of the pieces average about 28 “by 35″ in size and from an interesting expressionist value. For instance when viewed up close they're more like abstracts but from a distance everything comes together for a final punch of wow factor.
Here's a quote from the man himself "I was interested in communicating through visual representation in apparent 2-dimensional space and through the actual objects used for the medium in 3-dimensional space. It is very important to me that I incorporate the actual objects into the art as opposed to a picture or rendition of it because it better expresses the intention of the artwork. I feel the junk is more powerful being present. It is an actual thing to be reckoned with that existed in this time and place and carries energy in and of itself."
Now that's recycling!

Wow! That’s cool. In smaller scale, they simply look like great mosaics, no sign of junk at all.
Yeah, I’d still like to see some in the scale of yard sale lol – cheers Con
