Born In The Basement

Born In The Basement Urban Art Show

This show is a particular treat for me, Born In The Basement is being held just down the road near me at The Old Wine Cellar and will be featuring four emerging urban artists from down my way. What's most heartening is that until recently I was convinced I was alone, lost in a sea of crafts nuts and old ladies' etchings of the pier and beach. I was wrong, the revolution is most certainly here, right here, in St. Leonards on Sea.

I'll be down there for the private view from 6pm onwards on Friday 28th May for a chat, a drink (or two) and maybe even a boogie if I feel inclined (which is doubtful these days seeing as I am more and more resembling an old git I'd sneer at in my younger days) but still I can lend my support to the new wave of St. Leonardians – yep I just made that up. There's painting, abstract, screen prints and drawings as well as free food and drink and live music for all you scroungers who need a little more encouragement than the draw of great urban art.

I've a couple of examples of Mike Winnard's art, one of the exhibitors, and have to say I'm impressed, his style is for me at least reminiscent of several urban artists including Anthony Lister. Check these out, love those titles too…

I'll definitely be popping down to check the rest out and meet up with what I hope will be the first of many urban artists in my area, phew what a relief, at last St. Leonards on Sea has caught up with the 21st Century.
