Six Degrees of Separation 5th – 15th June
Yes it’s an economic recession, a world-wide one at that, but if you do have some spare cash lying around and fancy doing something worthwhile with it, don’t sink it into your mortgage, don’t splurge it on a flash new car, don’t eek it out at bootfairs over the next few years… no… invest it in some art by the hottest new genre on the market. Graffiti art is one of the few niches in the arts that’s still climbing financially, unlike Russian masterpieces or 19th century oils, graffiti art is pulling in a whole new global consumer audience.
It’s fresh, it’s socially relevant, it’s young, it’s about the only ‘movement’ that’s truly making inward strides to all parts of society, be it posh auction houses like Christies and Sotheby’s, or community events like those organised by the likes of Wonderland and Upfest, celebrities love it, the media has a love/hate relationship with street art, and by and large most people out there now can name at least one graffiti artist even if it is Banksy.
The fact is graffiti art pound for pound offers about the best arts investment going, so take a look at this hot new exhibition Six Degrees of Seperation. Every work on sale is being offered by a private investor, all are original works and prints by the world’s top graffiti artists including:-
Banksy
Faile
Jamie Hewlett
Gee Vaucher
Paul Insect
Mode 2
B-Toy
RUN
Antonio Cabrera
and many more …
The exhibition actually started yesterday (whoops) but there’s still time to grab a (relative) bargain, if you think of this as a long-term investment you will be made. Of course if you’re not a graffiti lover then don’t bother, there are no guarantees in this world that prices will continue to rise in the short term but I can assure you there’s a world of street art afficianados out there desperate to buy gear from the top name artists on the scene so you’ll never be out of pocket. Still forget about the money, wouldn’t it be fine to wake up to the likes of Banksy or Faile hanging on your wall every morning? It’d certainly make my day!
