Thanks Jacob - just got back from Morocco so need a day or two recovery ;) I'll be spending the next few weeks sanding down a rusty print dryer - then it's on to splurging on a few reams of top notch paper (probs Somerset) and a whole lot of other consumables and I should have something to sell by autumn. Hope it all works out for you too mate - you could try signing up for a short course for September then they'll let you rent the equipment and space? Look up http://www.brighton.ac.uk/arthouse/saturday/sat_print.html

Hi Paul,

I've been reading your posts and just wanted to say thanks for all the links you've posted. I live in Brighton and I've been struggling to find places that do high quality short run and one off printing. It's really encouraging to see how you just decided to do it yourself.

Hope everything works out.

Now that's a comment! Thanks for taking the time and trouble Mike. You'll be relieved to hear, well let's say I'll be relieved enough for the both of us that I have finally managed to procure a screen printing table which I should be able to start producing A1 prints over the next month or so, after I've built a drying rack, bought a compressor for the wash out booth which is essentially a tiled bathroom, and a heap load of paper, ink, emulsion and so on and so on. Thanks for the advice, will begin smashing a few proverbial lamps in the near future! I have some ideas lined up - a free print for a competition in a UK graffiti magazine and an exhibition in London amongst other things. Cheers - Paul

Paul-

Have been catching up on a few recent posts, and following your search for printing. I'm a little surprised there aren't more firms that can do the job in your end of the UK [for that matter, anywhere outside London and Bristol]. I'm sure you're not thrilled about the prospect of sending your printing to a trade school, but there may be one or two in that area that could do the work [frequently, these schools salivate at getting a bit of "real-world" assignments. Just a thought...]

Much agreement on your observations about government funding and the arts. When are these people [similar issues here in the US] going to get it? Let's face it; food for all will get you through times of crisis better than art. But art helps keep the wheels on. An art-oriented publication in Buffalo - Niagara Falls, NY, ARTVOICE [www.artvoice.com] is trying to keep the idea of dedicated funding for the arts on the front burner, especially as America tries to buy its way out of the current financial mayhem [which, apparently, we're mostly responsible for. Sorry...]

For some reason, a line from a poster comes to mind: its theme is "What my cat taught me". One of the "lessons" is, "If people are ignoring you, try knocking over a couple of expensive lamps". Couldn't hurt to think about it...

Hi Paul,

As a semi-retired fine-art screenprinter with many years experience producing artists prints I might, just might, be able to help!?

Thanks to the current economic downturn I am just about to return to the UK from my recently aborted project to run screen printmaking holidays in rural andalucia and would welcome the opportunity to chat with you.

Please email when convenient
